Founded in 1948 to bring attention to the threats to world animals, the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has developed the following categories of threat levels to species' survival:

| LC | LEAST CONCERN |
| NT | NEAR THREATENED |
| VU | VULNERABLE |
| EN | ENDANGERED |
| CR | CRITICALLY ENDANGERED |
| EW | EXTINCT IN THE WILD |
| EX | EXTINCT |
In this series of shows we will be discussing mainly classes EN through EW.
These shows are a free service for the
countries and groups working to protect
and save our wildlife. The shows are
